Dulwich College celebrates its 400th Anniversary in 2019

Dulwich College in London, founded in 1619, celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2019 with a special focus on wood engraving. Thomas Sturge Moore, the wood engraver, was a student at Dulwich in the early 1880s and to honor him and the College they commissioned seven wood engravers to create an engraving inspired by the school. I was honored to have been asked to be one of the engravers. The college had a wood engraving exhibition, published a catalog, and had a series of lectures on the art. I was unable to visit the college but they supplied me with numerous books and access to photographs so I was able to come up with a combination of historical and contemporary images that reflect 400 years of this excellent institution.
