Oak Knoll Fest XXI, a premier artists’, fine press and private press book fair, originally scheduled for October 2020 and then postponed to October 2021, will now be virtual. We are very excited to be organizing a fully virtual event, which will include speaker presentations and a book fair. We will be hosting virtual presentations via Zoom, and a virtual book fair will be held October 28, 12:00pm through October 30, 8:00pm (EDT) on Getman’s Virtual Platform. the theme of Oak Knoll Fest XXI, as originally planned, will be Women in the Book Arts.

Every two years the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association (PBFA) in the UK organizes the Oxford Fine Press Book Fair with the assistance of the UK team of the Fine Press Book Association. The Fair runs over a Saturday and Sunday with around 100 stands for presses, dealers, suppliers, and related organizations. 

The Fine Press Book Association organizes a Fair Dinner held at St Cross College on the Saturday evening and a program of three lectures and the presentation of various awards on the Sunday.

The 2020 Fair was originally planned for March 28-29 but was postponed to November 21-22, 2020 due to Covid. This fair, also, was cancelled due to Covid and has now been rescheduled for March 2022. All being well, it will be held, as originally planned, in the Examination Schools in central Oxford. The Lone Oak Press was scheduled to be one of the exhibitors in March and November, and is now planning to attend the fair in March 2022 depending on the status of the pandemic.

Another project to celebrate the Society of Wood Engravers Centenary in 2020 is four box sets of 20 engravings, each by a different member of the Society, on the theme of the four seasons. I was invited to participate and chose to do an engraving for winter. Only 20 boxes of each season were for sale and all sets have sold.

Published in 2020 to mark the Centenary of the Society of Wood engravers, this book links past with present and provides a fitting tribute to the skills of the engravers and the part played by the Society in the history of wood engraving. Nineteen wood engravers were asked to choose their major artistic influence, write an introduction about why they feel this way and, wherever possible, to work on a new engraving which sits side-by-side in the book with an engraving or illustration by their ‘inspirer’. I was invited to be one of the engravers and chose Leonard Baskin as the artist who had a major influence on my work. I chose a portrait of George Minne, the sculptor, by Baskin and engraved a portrait of Robert Frost, whom Baskin knew, to accompany it.
