Text by Barbara Hurd and engravings by Abigail Rorer
Swamp Impressions is a visual and textual meditation on the mystery and beauty of swamps—those wet, virtually inaccessible, forbidding, murky, and potentially dangerous wetlands often graced with skeletal trees, and teeming with plant and animal life. There is beauty and wonder in this otherworldly landscape. So many hidden worlds, so much mystery. This small book pays homage to this unique landscape.
Barbara Hurd’s text is taken from her book Stirring the Mud. Her work has won numerous awards including the Sierra Club’s National Nature Writing Award.
Abigail Rorer’s 14 relief engravings are the result of her explorations of the swamps and wetlands that abound in her surroundings in central Massachusetts.
